The premise of Byron's The Vision of Judgment is to some extent writing and partially political, but its spring was Byron's loathing of Cant and pretense.

Written in unrhymed hexameter, its attempts at righteousness achieved no more than a stock bravado. But far worsened was its pretence and unctuous timbre. Entitled "The Vision of Judgment" it showed George III's finish access into the william henry gates of heaven and the denouncement of his enemies. To Byron, the patent compliment of a King, who was at first mediocre and at most unattractive tyrannical, was exceedingly unsavory.

Byron was specially indignant because he saw Southey as a recreant - one who had once espoused the broad-minded cause, but had then exchanged his insignia to arm the decree Tory deputation. Further Southey had publically attacked Byron's writing style as happiness to the "Satanic School" whose phenomenon was to undermine religion and to dishonest motivation. Southey was answerable too, as Byron believed, for wide-spreading persuaded shameful rumours almost Byron's beingness in Switzerland. (Byron indeed had fiery personal business beside roughly lx to cardinal women). Byron here took retaliation by assailing both Southey and his "Vision" with generous derision.
